John and Margaret Ferraro Chair in Effective Local Government

The University of Southern California School of Policy, Planning, and Development (SPPD) invites nominations and applications to fill the Ferraro Chair in Effective Local Government. It is expected that the appointment will be a recognized scholar with outstanding credentials in one or more of the areas described below.

Position Description and Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree and demonstrate excellent research and teaching records. Substantive foci of particular interest for the chair may include public leadership, organizational management, finance/financial management, and intergovernmental management. Applications are particularly encouraged from individuals with strong credentials in organization theory/strategy, urban management/planning, and/or institutional analysis.

The John and Margaret Ferraro Chair in Effective Local Government is intended to support visible research, teaching, and outreach to support the development of strong, ethical and effective public leadership in local governments. The Chair will be filled by a distinguished scholar whose expertise can engage local government officials and leaders in the various sectors around innovative ideas and practices in governance.

Applicants are encouraged from a broad range of disciplines, such as public administration, management, public policy, planning, political science, and sociology. Our new colleague will contribute to research related to governance, place, and community, and teach within the school’s bachelors, masters, and/or doctoral degree programs.

Consideration of applications will begin January 15, 2007 and continue until the position is filled.
