ResearchResearch SymposiumBiography and Research PapersAssociate Professor Rena Sivitanidou joined the faculty of the former USC School of Urban and Regional Planning in 1991, after having received her PhD in Urban and Regional Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was an outstanding teacher, researcher and colleague. She holds the distinction of having won the Planning and Development Outstanding Teacher Award for every one of the eight years she taught at USC. Her contributions to the Master of Real Estate Development program centered on the magnificent way in which she taught market analysis. She also took great pride in teaching students of planning and development at all levels. The students knew her as dedicated, persistent, sympathetic, and available at almost any hour of the day or night. Professor Sivitanidou was passionate about her research. She was committed to helping us better understand the nature and dynamics of land rents. She has authored and published numerous papers on this topic, and her publications have appeared in the top journals of her field. Her research is widely known as being creative, rigorous and applicable to real estate development. She was a leading scholar both in the USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development, and in the Lusk Center for Real Estate. Rena Sivitanidou was a highly respected colleague, a good friend, and most of all a wonderful mentor to large numbers of students.
