California Foundations

The Center's baseline analysis of California foundations, using 1999 data from The Foundation Center in New York, was the first comprehensive analysis of the nature, progress and development of California's foundation sector. With updated data through 2001 and an update using 2004 data currently underway, this work provides a necessary context and starting point upon which to formulate questions for further study and raise issues that deserve attention and discussion by philanthropic and nonprofit leaders, public policymakers, and the public. Through this work, the Center hopes to inform and encourage news coverage of foundation philanthropy in California.
