Judith Rodin Kicked-off 2006-2007 Distinguished Speakers Series
Judith Rodin, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, kicked-off the Center's 2006-07 Distinguished Speakers Series on Wednesday, November 29. In an address entitled "New Philanthropy for Our Young Century," Dr. Rodin shared her thoughts on how philanthropists and foundations can use a variety of assets to effect change, at home and throughout the world. Jack Knott Joins SPPD as Dean and Center Fellow
Jack Knott, former Director of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs and Professor of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Chicago, joined the USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development (SPPD) on August 15, 2005 as the C. Erwin and Ione L. Piper Dean. Dr. Knott also serves as a member of the Center's Board of Advisors and as a Faculty Fellow in the Center. In 2003, Dr. Knott authored a paper on "Foundations, Public Policy, and Child Care" as part of the Center's Foundations and Public Policymaking project. An expert in such areas as public policy, health policy, political institutions and public management, he also participated in the November 2003 roundtable on Philanthropy and Health Policymaking. Teresa Heinz Kicked-off 2005-06 Distinguished Speakers Series
Teresa Heinz, Chair of the Howard Heinz Endowment and Heinz Family Philanthropies, kicked off the Center's 2005-06 Distinguished Speakers Series on Monday, October 17, 2005. In an address entitled "High Impact Giving: Philanthropy in the Age of Accountability," Ms. Heinz will provide some personal insight on the strategies she has used to maximize her own and her family's philanthropy, both regionally and nationally. For a transcript of her remarks, click here.

New Highlight Report: Philanthropy, Nonprofits and the Media
Philanthropy, Nonprofits and the Media is a summary of observations and insights gleaned from conversations, research and a journalists’ workshop undertaken by the Center over the past two years. The purpose of this effort is to better understand the relationship between foundations, nonprofits and the media, and to identify ways to strengthen public understanding of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector through more effective communications on the part of foundations and nonprofits and more informed and accurate reporting on the part of the media.
