MPP Internships
To put into practice the analytical skills learned in the classroom, MPP students participate in internships. Internships may be completed during the academic year or in the summer. They give students the opportunity to explore different organizational settings such as:
- political offices
- public agencies
- nonprofit organizations
- consulting firms
- public affairs firms
Students also track legislation, conduct surveys and propose solutions on several different policy issues.

Assignment: Assist in legislative research, legislative advocacy, media relations and customer service to member cities.
Community Development Commission, County of Los Angeles
Assignment: Assist the Grants Planning Team; research fair housing issues; conduct an impediment analysis study of fair housing activities; examine Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area goals; interpret federal regulation impacting the Department's projects.
Center for Civic Education
Assignment: Conduct research on the political attitude of youth in the U.S. and emerging democracies.
City Manager's Office, Torrance, CA
Assignment: Serve as coordinator for the Census 2000 committee; assist with the production of publications; research and prepare agenda items; write letters of support/opposition for the mayor's signature; attend legislative liaison meetings; gather information for budget requests.
KPMG Consulting, LLC
Assignment: Assist with computer systems integration projects focusing on the criminal justice area; develop and implement training materials and training courses; interact with consultants.
Mayor's Office, Los Angeles, CA
Assignment: Research youth-related issues facing the city; write policy memos; analyze legislation; prepare briefing papers; maintain the education policy team's media and statistics database.
Alameda Corridor Jobs Coalition
Assignment: Research and analyze policies relevant to the low-income population in Los Angeles. Policy areas include welfare, employment/wages, transportation, childcare, immigration and urban sprawl.
Los Angeles Police Protective League
Assignment: Focus on urban police issues; assist in the preparation of the report of the Rampart Investigations; interview prominent attorneys, police officers and experts.
