Policy Outreach
The mission of the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development is to educate leaders and produce knowledge that improves problem solving on the most critical issues facing society. The ultimate goal is to contribute in a practical way to the betterment of communities here and abroad. SPPD’s policy outreach program in Sacramento supports this mission by working to bridge research and policy communities so that policy decisions are informed by the highest level of research available.
The policy outreach program creates opportunities for USC faculty and students to directly interact with California state policymakers and the media through:
- Policy luncheons events featuring current SPPD research covering a broad spectrum of topics including immigration, education and housing policy;
- Collaborative projects with state government agencies that can benefit from the expertise of SPPD faculty and researchers; and
- Policy briefs that apply SPPD research to addressing major policy issues in California.
The policy outreach program is a collaborative effort between SPPD and the USC State Government Relations Office. Staff members include:
- Rich Callahan, Associate Dean and Director of Leadership Programs, USC SPPD
- Kristen Soares, Associate Vice President, External Relations, USC
- Veronica Villalobos, Director, State Government Relations, USC
