For more than thirty-five years, two deeply held core values and one unique and distinct advantage have distinguished the faculty, students and alumni of the SPPD State Capital Center graduate programs. The first core value, Making a Difference, gives each of our students and alumni a strong optimistic spirit, and a deep and abiding commitment to public, private and nonprofit service. This profound value impacts our Advisory Board members who generously donate their time and wisdom to our world class curricula, and our exceptional full-time and adjunct faculty.

The second core value is a Passion For Learning. This value is firmly grounded in the student's direct application of theory to immediate, practical action. The Center in Sacramento delivers this value through challenging and highly stimulating seminar-style classes with expert faculty, along with the participation of classmates who are experienced in the professional challenges of public administration and health administration.

The Center is located in the state capital, which grants students immediate access to the elected legislators, appointed officials and in-service public sector professionals who are responsible for the operations of the State of California. This translates into "hands on", day-to-day, learning from the same experts who are creating solutions to real world problems for the fifth largest economy in the world. This advantage is unique to the USC State Capital Center. Our close connections to the state’s legislative and executive branches of government, its numerous associations, class research projects, and our teaching university provide an exceptional rich set of resources to you, the graduate student.
