About DCI
The primary goal of the Delinquency Control Institute (DCI) is to provide a broad multidisciplinary program of professionalized services to youth and the community while increasing the effectiveness of the entire juvenile justice system. DCI’s intensive six-week programs educate participants in matters pertaining to juvenile crime, child abuse and the administration of justice. Utilizing this professional approach often helps many youthful offenders while avoiding costly victimization and/or institutionalization.
History of DCI
The first of its kind, DCI was created through the joint effort of law enforcement officials, social workers, educators and involved citizens who were concerned about the increasing problem of juvenile delinquency during the World War II era. The institute has been educating professionals successfully since 1946, with more than 5,000 graduates representing all states and over 45 other countries.
Award-Winning Program
Police Chief magazine, the official publication of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), described DCI as one of the six U.S. "...law enforcement training centers with programs of national significance." DCI has received many awards, most recently from the prestigious National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges for "Meritorious Service to the Children of America” and the Governor's Award for Most Outstanding Californian Criminal Justice education program as selected by POST via an unanimous vote.
