Urban Growth and Development
Center for Economic Development
Several important SPPD themes converge in the Center for Economic Development, a federally-funded university research center. Part research entity, part internship activity, part outreach arm, the CED and its allied organization, the Community Development and Design Forum, have been intimately involved in assisting hundreds of cities, communities, agencies, community groups and other organizations in greater Southern California. Through faculty-guided student research and project work, CED provides services such as technical assistance, training, organizing, applied research, policy analysis and resource development to help neighborhoods, communities and municipalities address pressing issues in housing, planning and urban design, job creation, commercial growth and economic development.

Population Dynamics Research Group
The Population Dynamics Research Group studies the structure and trends of the population of the Los Angeles region and California as a whole to bring a population-centered perspective to planning and policy making. The group provides in-depth, insightful and timely information to educate planners and decision-makers about the implications of population growth and structure on demand for infrastructure, products and services. Specific research areas include immigration, changes in ethnic and racial composition, tobacco use and health, education, housing, transportation, census data and alternative planning forecasts.
