A Few Words About HIV Testing
The University Park Health Center offers two (2) choices of HIV testing options: Anonymous or confidential. The following information is to help you decide which is best for you. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend everyone should get tested with their primary care provider during routine visits.

As part of your medical record, disclosure is prevented without your specific written authorization, except by subpoena. There is no control of results once you authorize their disclosure. |
| Who provides testing |
A Peer Health Educator (student) trained to the standard set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides both pre and post test counseling. |
Your doctor or physician assistant. |
Anonymous testing is conducted through the Health Promotion and Prevention Services Department, and is the most private way of being tested. Because there are no copies, you have immediate control of who knows the results.
Confidential testing is recommended by some clinicians so that your health care providers are aware of this important piece of information about your health. Don’t hesitate to speak with your clinician if you have any questions. The choice is yours.
