Tuberculosis Screening Requirement (Effective Fall 2007):

All International Students are required to be screened for tuberculosis in the United States or Canada within 6 months prior to their fi rst semester of enrollment at USC. A photocopy documenting one of the following will serve as proof:

  1. Documentation of a negative TB skin test (PPD) administered and read in the United States or Canada within six months prior to enrollment;
    OR
  2. Documentation of INH therapy for prophylaxis for at least six months and a written report of a negative chest X-ray performed in the United States or Canada within six months prior to enrollment
    OR
  3. Documentation of both a positive PPD skin test and a negative chest X-ray performed in the United States or Canada within six months prior to enrollment
    OR
  4. Documentation of previous treatment for active tuberculosis and a written report of a negative chest X-ray performed in the United States or Canada within six months prior to enrollment

Documentation of a POSITIVE TB skin test, performed in a country other than the United States or Canada, will only be accepted if the document includes the measurement of reaction in millimeters. A written report of a negative chest x-ray performed in the United States or Canada within six months prior to enrollment at USC must accompany this document.

A history of BCG immunization does NOT fulfi ll this requirement. Tuberculosis skin testing must include measurement of reaction in millimeters and must include an offi cial signature or stamp from a physician or clinic in the United States or Canada. Chest X-rays must be performed in the United States or Canada and in the form of a written report. X-ray fi lms will not be accepted.

Students Unable to Provide Documentation:

Students unable to provide the required documentation, will be asked to receive a PPD skin Test and/or Chest X-ray and provide us with that documentation. Documents must be submitted by the following deadlines:

Semester Deadline
Incoming Students for Fall 2007 September 7, 2007
Incoming Students for Spring 2008 January 25, 2008

 

All documents must include the students full name and 10-Digit USC ID number. Students may mail, hand-deliver or FAX required documents to:

IMPORTANT - Receiving a Measles Vaccination and TB Skin Test Simultaneously:

A Measles, Mumps or MMR vaccination and a TB Skin test may be performed at the same time. However, if not performed at the same time, students who have previously received a Measles, Mumps or MMR vaccination MUST wait at least 4 weeks from the date of their vaccination to have a TB skin test performed.
