Judicial Officer (Graduate Advisor Position)

GENERAL STATEMENT
The University of Southern California student judicial system is based on a developmental and progressive response to student conduct code violations within the university community. It is aimed at helping students acknowledge responsibility for their actions and assist them in learning behaviors which will assist them in being successful members of the USC community.
The Judicial Officer is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the student judicial system. The Officer is involved in a variety of activities covering the entire student conduct process. Responsibilities of the position are described below.

1. Administrative and Informational Reviews - Meet with students who have allegedly violated the student conduct code to ascertain their level of involvement. Adjudicate cases and assign developmental sanctions as appropriate.

2. Case Management - Maintain files on all assigned disciplinary cases, track sanctions and conduct investigations as necessary.

3. Liaison - Serve as the liaison with the Office for Residential Education, Sorority & Fraternity Leadership, the Department of Public Safety, and Transportation Services on student conduct related issues. The Judicial Officer will be assigned an area of the campus community and will maintain a history of the student conduct incidents. Hold weekly meetings with Student Affairs staff assigned to residential areas.

4. Office Duties - Maintain regular office hours, assist with phone calls and office work as needed, and attend staff meetings. Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director, Student Judicial Affairs and Community Standards.

5. Training - Assist with policy, procedure, and training manual revisions as well as workshop designs. Opportunity to participate in workshop presentations throughout the year.

6. Educational Presentations - Develop and present seminars/workshops for members of the university community regarding student expectations, academic integrity, parent orientation, as well as other workshops as necessary. Seminars may also be utilized in the adjudication process as educational interventions/sanctions.

7. Advising & Meeting with Staff/Student Groups - Advise related student groups such as peer mediators, greek organizations, and Trojans for Integrity.

COMPENSATION
Compensation is $12 per hour for 20 hours per week and two units of tuition per semester. Work obligations commence late August prior to the first day of school through May.

REQUIREMENTS
Graduate enrollment at USC; strong oral and written communication skills; experience and/or skills related to training undergraduates in group skills and leadership; strong interpersonal skills related to consultation with individual students concerning unacceptable behaviors.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Continuing good standing as a graduate student at the University of Southern California.
- Acceptable hours of availability during normal business hours.
- Maintenance of the strictest levels of confidentiality.
- Exercising sound judgement and the highest ethical standards.
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
