Description:The Churchill Scholarship provides tuition and funding toward graduate work
in engineering, mathematics and the physical and natural sciences
at Churchill College, Cambridge University. Funds provided include tuition, a $12,000 living stipend, plus an a $1,000 USA to UK roundtrip travel allowance. Desired qualities are
character, adaptability, and a demonstrated concern for the critical
problems of society.

Description: Fulbright
provides full funding for a year abroad in over 100 countries for
graduating seniors and graduate students who are U.S. citizens.
Fulbright full grants generally provide round-trip transportation;
language or orientation courses, where appropriate; tuition, in
some cases; book and research allowances; a maintenance allowance
for the academic year, based on living costs in the host country;
and supplemental health and accident insurance. A certain portion
of the awards are reserved for graduating seniors. While excellence
in the field of study and a strong academic record are preconditions
for this fellowship, candidates are also selected using the following
criteria: their project is both valid and feasible, they have the
language qualifications they need for their specific program, have
knowledge of the host country, and they possess characteristics
that may make them a good ambassador. Currently enrolled students
are strongly encouraged to be endorsed by USC, rather than applying “at large.”

GATES CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP www.gates.scholarships.cam.ac.uk
National Deadline: Fall
Semester Description: The
Gates Cambridge Scholarship is for one year of study as an affiliated
student or graduate student at the University of Cambridge. Scholarship
includes the following: tuition, a maintenance allowance sufficient
for a single student (£7,750 for 12 months), a further discretionary
allowance (£1,500 per year), and one return economy airfare.
Students can use the grant toward a second Bachelor degree as an
affiliated student, one-year postgraduate courses, or research leading
to the degree of PhD. In selecting Gates Cambridge Scholars, the
foundation seeks students of exceptional academic achievement and
scholarly promise. Students are encouraged to provide evidence of
their ability to make a significant contribution to their discipline.

Description:For
undergraduate study leading to careers in mathematics or natural
science or engineering. The scholarship awards up to $7,500 for
the remaining year(s) of study. Desired qualities include a highly
competitive grade point average and commitment and potential to
make a significant contribution to his or her chosen field of study.
It is also expected that students selected as scholars will pursue
advanced degrees.

Description: The
Henry Luce Foundation seeks to develop a new level of understanding
of Asia among future leaders of American society. The program is
aimed at students with varied academic backgrounds who demonstrate
leadership and have had no prior experience in Asian affairs. Leadership
can be broadly defined by the following characteristics: initiative,
creativity, the respect of one's peers, maturity, strength of character,
self-confidence tempered by self-awareness, a sense of responsibility,
sensitivity, a positive personality. The scholarship funds a one-year
internship placement in the following countries in East and Southeast
Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, China and Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia,
Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand,
and Vietnam.

Description: Marshall
Scholarships are available for a two- or three-year program of study
in any university in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales,
and Northern Ireland). Awards Average £ 19,000 per year. Desired
qualities are demonstrated social concern and evidence that a candidate
will be a leader both within his or her profession and within the

Description: The George Mitchell
Scholarship is highly competitive program for individuals wishing
to pursue one year of study at one of nine institutions of higher
learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Funds cover tuition, housing, and a stipend of $12,000, plus an international travel stipend. Desired qualities are
demonstrated academic distinction, leadership activity, unselfish
service to others, and extra-curricular activity, including potential
for future leadership and contribution to society.

Description:
Program
seeks to enhance U.S. understanding of foreign cultures, strengthen
our economic competitiveness, and ensure our national security by
fully funding students to enter a study abroad program with intent
to learn a new language. It is designated for students enrolled
in study-abroad programs OUTSIDE OF Canada, Australia, New Zealand,
and Western Europe.

2.DAVID L. BOREN GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
National Deadline: January 30, 2007
Description: NSEP Boren Fellowships provide support for overseas study, domestic study, or a combination of both. NSEP focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. The fellowships can be applied to study abroad in all countries except Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Although study outside the United States is not required, successful applications generally include a significant overseas component.

be enrolled in or applying to a graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university located within the United States
include a plan for language study in a modern language other than English in your application.

Description: The
Rhodes Scholarship brings students from eighteen countries and five
continents to the University of Oxford in England. Scholarship includes
tuition and a stipend of approximately $7,500 per year toward a
doctorate, master’s or second bachelor’s degree at the
University of Oxford. Scholarships are awarded in a national competition
with state and regional interviews. Study is funded for a one- two-
or three-year period. The most important desired quality of a Rhodes
Scholar is excellence in the overall academic record, complemented
by qualities of leadership, writing ability, social concern, and
athletic activity.

ROTARY
INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP www.rotary.org/foundation/educational/amb_scho Campus Deadline: Deadline

awards are for one year of university study in any field, with the
possibility of 1-2 months of intensive language training during
the summer. Study is available in more than 100 countries that have
a Rotary Club. USC does not take part in the screening process;
thus, contact with a local Rotary Club is required. Eligibility: Candidates

Description:Highly
competitive scholarship program for individuals pursuing careers
in public service. The purpose of the scholarship is twofold: to
find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential
who are committed to careers in government, the non-profit or advocacy
sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and to provide
them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training,
and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a
