LGBT Resource Center's 08-09 Assessment for Improving Program Performance

About the LGBT Resource Center's Assessment, Ray Gonzales, co-chair for the Assessment Committee, says:

This is a very good example of formative or performance-based assessment. This kind of assessment is conducted when program functioning is the primary focus of the effort. Organizations will often want to increase efficiency, responsiveness, customer satisfaction, and/or participation levels in its various program offerings. The annual report starts by examining the impact of program changes; changes made based on the previous year’s assessment. The program director and staff think about the alterations in the context of perceived deficiencies and develop focus group questions. The questions are then used to collect feedback, and program modifications are posed as a result. The most significant elements in this assessment are that the director has taken the time to reflect on focus-group results, tracked the program changes and their impact, and uses the acquired information improve understanding and program performance.
