Example of identifying needs

The goal is to bring into consciousness anything that could influence the development of the plan or interpretation of the data.

Alcohol Education Program Example:

If you were to choose an alcohol education class for students sanctioned for a judicial violation some assumptions that you may have may include:

  • Students do not want to be in the class.
  • All of these students are high-risk drinkers.
  • Students will not learn much from a lecture style class.
  • In-class education is the only effective means of passing on knowledge regarding alcohol use.
  • Students in the class can have an influence on their friends by sharing this information.
By listing the assumptions, you can become conscious of possible biases and you may identify some objectives or goals for your assessment.
