Established in 1996, USC Spectrum already has an impressive history. In the last ten years, Spectrum has brought the world's best artists, musicians, lecturers and public figures directly to the USC campus for all members of the Trojan Family to enjoy. These events have created the ideal forum for students, faculty, staff and guests to exchange ideas and experiences from a broad range of topics.
USC Spectrum’s past event archives reads as a veritable “Who’s Who" in the arts and humanities and this season will be no exception. From major authors and playwrights (Ray Bradbury, Edward Albee, Tony Kushner, Kurt Vonnegut, Maya Angelou), to jazz legends (Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, Dave Brubek), internationally renowned musicians (Yo-Yo Ma, Nancy Wilson, Poncho Sanchez, Lila Downs, The Blind Boys of Alabama), and dance companies (Diavolo, American Theatre Ballet, Bill T. Jones), Spectrum continually brings the world's best to USC's back yard. Audiences have been treated to personal and intimate concerts in Alfred Newman Hall, outdoor concert series in Alumni Park and McCarthy Quad, and lively debates in Bovard Auditorium.
Spectrum also presents the annual week long Jazz@USC festival every April, with free noon performances of student ensembles in Alumni Park, and full length jazz concerts in the evenings. The festival creates an opportunity for students to hear, and sometimes perform with, the greatest jazz musicians of our time.
