USC Partners With Kennesaw State University To Explore Homelessness

"Welcome to the place you never want to end up," yelled a man on downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row, a homeless community of more than 10,000 people that covers 50 blocks. The man was addressing a group of students from USC and Kennesaw State University (KSU) in Atlanta, who were touring the area for a project on homelessness.

Latino Floor Hosts Dia de Los Muertos Celebration

The Day of the Dead celebration was alive with excitement.

USC's Latino Floor welcomed hundreds of elementary school students from the community to Fluor Tower for a Dia de Los Muertos event that combined culture, history and a glimpse of the college experience.

Dia de Los Muertos is traditionally a Mexican holiday Nov. 1 - 2, which honors and celebrates the lives of those who have passed away. However, the cultural evening took on a bit of a twist on the Latino Floor.

A record 1,100 students and parents attended the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center's Models of Pride conference on the USC campus.

On October 15, the USC campus rolled out the rainbow carpet for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center's Models of Pride conference, and a record 1,100 students and parents attended. Started in 1993, the free, daylong conference focuses on the interests and concerns of LGBT youth ages 12 to 24 through roundtable discussions, workshops, a resource fair and a dance for high school attendees.

When the Friday afternoon bell rings at high schools across America, students rush out of their classrooms in pursuit of weekend fun. But for a select group of girls from Los Angeles' Thomas Riley High School — which caters to teens who have been or are pregnant — the Friday afternoon bell summons them back into the classroom.
