Countries have capitals. Cities have town halls. Neighborhoods have community centers. Gathering places are a hallmark of human civilization—places in which we learn, exchange ideas, celebrate tradition, and develop social and cultural connections. In 2008 the University of Southern California begins construction on its new central gathering place, the new Ronald Tutor Campus Center. Located in the heart of the campus, the Campus Center will be used by virtually every current and prospective student, professor, staff member, family member, and visitor on campus, as well as USC’s nearly 200,000 alumni.
The Ronald Tutor Campus Center is designed to create a new definition of community at USC—one that reflects our storied history and inspires us to reach new heights as a community of learners.
USC is seeking submissions of art for the new Ronald Tutor Campus Center. All USC students are eligible to compete and all art media are welcome. All the artworks selected by this process will become part of the Campus Center’s permanent collection and the student will receive an honorarium if selected. The new Ronald Tutor Campus Center, opening in 2010, will be celebrating a monumental benchmark toward the building’s completion and the University wants you to be a part of it. The construction crew will soon position the remaining beams near the highest point of the building – this major milestone marks the completion of the building’s steel structure. We are inviting students, faculty, staff and all members of the Trojan Family to leave your mark on the building by signing your names on these remaining beams that will soon be attached to the building. The steel beams will be painted and will be placed on Childs Way across from the USC Bookstore beginning Wednesday, December 3rd and will remain there till the end of the week; the following week, the beams will be relocated to a different area but still near the center of campus. There will also be someone near the steel beams with markers for your convenience.
