What is an Ally?
An Ally is a person who is a member of the dominant or majority group who works to end oppression in his or her private and professional life through support of, and as an advocate for the oppressed population.
How can Allies help?
Allies can help LGBT people by advocating that LGBT people are entitled to the same rights as any other person regardless of their sexual or gender identity.
Who are famous Allies?
Actress Judith Light, comedian Margaret Cho, pop idol Madonna, rapper Kayne West and more!

At USC, we have two strong Ally Programs:
1) Faculty and Staff Allies Program
2)Ally Alliance - a student organization
You can attend any of these meeting to learn how to support LGBT people.

FACULTY & STAFF ALLY PROGRAM
The Faculty and Staff Allies Program began in the fall of 2004. It is a program designed to educate interested faculty and staff members about the the LGBT community at large. We have monthly luncheon discussions that cover topics such as living as an intersex person, being a transgender college students, gay adoption, LGBT and spirituality and more.
Every participate in the program has participated in an initial orientation session that exposes them to the campus and local LGBT resources and in exchange participants are given a "safe zone" ally sticker (as seen in the left image) to post in their work area. This sticker shows the faculty and staff persons are supportive individuals are are well aware of LGBT resources. ALLY ALLIANCE
The student Ally Alliance began in the fall of 2004. It meets weekly to discuss how Ally
students can educate the campus community. Members create their own supportive programs and coordinate their own events and help with campus-wide GLBTA sponsored events. Facebook Group. During Coming Out events, the Ally Alliance sponsors the "Gay? Fine by Me." T-shirt Campaign. In 2004, they gave about 370 T-shirts to the USC community. Click here for pictures from this event. Every fall semester, they continue to give away T-shirts.
