MEET THE RESIDENT ADVISOR

Rissa Emond is a Biological Sciences major. She has lived on the Rainbow Floor for the past two years and her third year on the floor, she will serve as the Resident Advisor. Rissa has many big plans for the floor, which includes collaborating with the other special interest communities in Residential Life. She would also like to work on additional promotion for the floor to the entire USC Community.

    LGBT Peer Mentor Program

    Do you want to talk to someone confidentially about being a student at USC? Do you self identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or curious? Join the mentoring program and work with a caring, dynamic peer mentor on your personal, social, academic, career, and lifestyle goals! Interested students are encouraged to vist the Peer Mentor Program website.

    University Rap (uRap)

    University Rap is a weekly confidential discussion group about current issues in the LGBT community and uRap coordinates social events. This is the perfect place to meet new people and make some new friends. We encourage students who are seeking to connect with peers or discuss recent stresses in their lives to attend. Topics will vary every week. If you are interested in participating in uRap, email the uRap Coordinator Vickie Toro.

  • RESOURCES FOR RESIDENT ADVISORS & RESIDENTIAL COORDINATORS

    Faculty & Staff Ally Program

    The Faculty and Staff Allies Program began in Fall 2004. It educates faculty and staff members about the the LGBT community. The program also sponsors monthly luncheon discussions that address different LGBT topics like Proposition 8, transgender college experiences, gay adoption, LGBT and spirituality and more.

    Members of Residential Education can easily become a registered Ally with the center by attending the Ally Orientation and Introduction session scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2009 at 12 pm in WPH 403. After this session, you will receive your Ally sticker.

    LGBT Speaker's Bureau

    The purpose of the LGBT Speaker’s Bureau is to provide Residential Education with LGBT theme diversity programs that aim to educate residential students about the LGBT Community through interactive, peer to peer discussions.

    The bureau’s speakers are fellow USC students. These students are comfortable with their identities to expose their own experiences to educate the greater USC community about concerns and issues within the LGBT community. Click here for more information.

  • INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

    GLBTA

    The GLBTA is a Program Board cultural assembly. Program Board is a division of the Undergraduate Student Senate that provides student-run programming for the entire campus community. GLBTA is the umbrella organization for several student organizations. Traditional GLBTA events include: National Coming Out Week (fall semester), Pridefest (spring semester), Gender Justice Week, World AIDS Day and many more.

    GLBTA meets Mondays at 6 p.m. in University Religious Center (URC) 103 during the academic school year. For more information about getting involved with the GLBTA, please e-mail glbta@usc.edu.

    Rainbow Floor

    The Rainbow Floor provides LGBT students, along with their straight allies, a safe and affirming living environment through educational, academic and social programming. It is one of several USC theme housings and is a great place for students to develop their leadership skills and make long-lasting friendships. It is located in Century Apartments 2 on the second floor, Wing C. The floor works in collaboration with the LGBT Resource Center and Residential Education.
