A feisty, intelligent and impoverished young woman, the daughter of a deceased country doctor who left her to fend for herself as a shop girl at Dobson's Emporium, unexpectedly inherits £300 that she decides to spend, instead of invest, on a fling that will give her something to remember for the rest of her life.
