Surveys

The Students Outcomes Research office in USC's Division of Student Affairs conducts many surveys and has been doing so for over 30 years. Some are given each semester and others are administered every few years. Below is a review of each of the surveys that are regularly administered. Please refer to the home page for links to survey reports and data.

Freshman Survey

This survey is given every semester to incoming freshmen. In past years, the response rate for this survey has ranged from 85% to 92%, with over 2,500 students completing the survey each year. For fall 2008 incoming freshman, the national Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) freshman survey is being administered. This survey consists of over 100 questions and is administered online.

Transfer Survey

Incoming transfer students are also surveyed each term. Response rates for transfer students have been between 70% and 75% in recent years. For fall 2008 incoming transfer students, the Survey of Incoming Transfer Students, developed by USC's Student Outcomes Research office, is being administered online.

Check-In Survey

Beginning in spring 2007, freshmen were surveyed early in their second semester about their academic, social, and residential experiences. This 2nd Semester Check-in Survey survey was administered again in spring 2008.

Satisfaction Survey

Every two to three years, a sample of undergraduate students in selected and invited to complete a satisfaction survey. In 2006, the USC Satisfaction Survey was administered to over 1000 students (a 36% response rate). The survey is currently being administered (in spring 2008).

Senior Survey

Every three years, all seniors are invited to participate in a survey. In 2005, the USC Senior Survey was completed by over 1,600 seniors. A new version of this survey is currently being administered to the class of 2008.

College Student Experience Questionnaire

Every three years, a sample of USC students is invited to participate in the College Student Experience Questionnaire (CSEQ), a nationally administered survey focusing on the undergraduate experience. The survey was last administered to USC stuents in 2007 and will be administered next in 2010.
