USC Student Hosts Bone Marrow Registration Drive
Trousdale Parkway
One year ago, Elizabeth Jordan — USC student and on campus programs coordinator at the Career Planning & Placement Center — donated her bone marrow to a woman with leukemia, Dr. Rhonda Christensen.
This Friday, September 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jordan and Christensen will be on Trousdale Parkway urging others to join the bone marrow registry and save lives.
Now, Christensen is cancer-free and is coming to Los Angeles on Friday to encourage others in the USC community to do as Jordan did and join the cause. A bone marrow or blood cell transplant is a way to treat and possibly cure people with leukemia and other deadly diseases. There are more than 10 million donors registered worldwide, but there are still thousands of patients every day who need donors.
Registering is as easy as filling out a questionnaire, taking a cheek swab and remaining committed to the patients searching for a matched marrow donor. Donors should be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good health.
