Diwali Night

Sunday, October 25, 7:30 p.m.
Bovard Auditorium

Celebrate the festival of Diwali with USC's vibrant community of Indian students, who number more than 1,500.

Diwali — a Sanskrit word meaning "row of lamps" — signifies the renewal of life and the awareness of inner light. Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains all celebrate the five-day festival in various ways — lighting small clay lamps, candles and colorful paper lanterns; setting off fireworks; wearing new clothes; sharing sweets; and attending fairs or "melas" featuring food, carnival rides, jugglers, acrobats, snake charmers and fortune tellers.

USC's festivities will include plays, dances and music. The evening will conclude with a sumptuous Indian dinner. The event is sponsored by the Graduate and Professional Student Senate, the Viterbi Graduate Student Association, the Office of Religious Life and the Association of Indian Students.

USC students enter and eat free with their USCards; guests pay $10, which includes dinner. To RSVP, please visit www.eventbrite.com/event/460722032.
