Spirituality and Sports: "Devil at My Heels" by Louis Zamperini

Wednesday, October 7, 7-9 p.m.
USC Catholic Center (3207 University Avenue)

Imagine surviving a World War II plane crash and drifting for 47 days on a raft in the Pacific Ocean, ingesting nothing but collected rainfall, shark liver and raw albatross.

On Wednesday, October 7, 92-year-old Louis Zamperini will share this and other astonishing recollections from his harrowing but inspirational life, chronicled in his memoir "Devil at My Heels." After graduating from USC, competing on the 1936 Olympic track team and serving in World War II, Zamperini struggled with flashbacks and alcoholism. His wife persuaded him to attend one of evangelist Billy Graham's crusades, and Zamperini's life was transformed forever.

Part of the Spirituality and Sports initiative, the program will also include a 30-minute video about Zamperini's life and an audience Q&A, moderated by Annenberg School for Communication faculty member Jeff Fellenzer. Light refreshments will be served.
