New Executive Director of OIS, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

Serving as interim director of the Office of International Services (OIS) for the past year, Tony Tambascia has been appointed executive director for the department and assistant dean for Student Affairs.

As executive director, Tambascia plans to continue and build on the department’s “high level of credibility and expectation for excellent service.” He also plans to examine how to better and more efficiently serve the large student population while still maintaining personal contact.

“The staff is really experienced and knowledgeable so it makes it easier to fit in and move things forward,” says Tambascia. “OIS is a real leader in the field.”

Tambascia first worked for OIS as an international student advisor when he started working for USC in 1993. In 2000, he moved into the director position for Academic Recognition Programs.

OIS provides a variety of resources for international students, including advisement, social programs and advocacy. Tambascia oversees all functions of the office, works with staff to continually improve and enhance programs and services, and offers advisement for more complex cases.

Tambascia earned his bachelor’s degree in organizational communication at Ohio University, his master’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University and his Ph.D. in international education from USC. Prior to coming to USC, Tony worked in student affairs positions at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and at Rollins College in Orlando, Florida.
