Danielle Lancon – Director, Center for Women and Men
The Center for Women and Men, USC's critical resource for victims of gender-based harm, has chosen Danielle Lancon as its new director.
Lancon, a Bay Area native, is new to USC and segues from a career spent in therapy and clinical work with both adults and adolescents. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and her master’s degree in clinical social work from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
One of Lancon’s main goals is to increase the center’s visibility on campus. She also plans to collaborate with new partners, including female athletes, cultural resource groups such as the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs (CBCSA) and other departments in Student Affairs. She also hopes to do more work with the greek community.
The center is “doing groundbreaking work,” she says, and will continue educating male students. She notes that it's just as important for women to work together. "Women often pass the blame," she says. "They should be supportive of one another and be allies."
Lancon describes the center as a model for other schools and applauds USC's commitment to its success. "It says something that the administration places an emphasis on having a center about harm related to gender. There's real value in prevention, education and advocacy."
Upcoming, the center is forming a new group for survivors of sexual assault and plans to participate in the Women's Student Association's marquee spring event, Take Back the Night.
