Nícole R. Jones – Assistant Director, Office of Black Alumni Programs
Nícole R. Jones hopes to “bring the visions and missions of African-American alumni to fruition” in her new role as assistant director of the Office of Black Alumni Programs. She is one of three recent department hires. In fact, the office’s entire staff is new — all were hired between April and July of this year.
“Because the whole staff is new, we’re developing a foundation and trying to get our footing,” says Nícole.
Nícole's job duties include handling events, working with the director on development efforts, connecting with alumni, informing students about programs and scholarships and revamping the mentor program.
“I want to help strengthen and increase the African-American alumni base at USC, develop and sustain relations with alumni, and cultivate relationships with students now before they become alumni,” says Nícole. She hopes to do so by spreading the word about the office and the programs it offers.
Nícole earned her bachelor’s degree in speech communication from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University and an MBA from Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. She also holds a master’s degree in television, radio and film from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University as well as certificates in nonprofit management and event management. Previously, Nícole served as director of events and programs for the School of Education at Syracuse University. Her work experience also includes working in the music industry and for a nonprofit— Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund in Washington, D.C.
Nícole loves the loyalty and Trojan Family atmosphere at USC. “I love the direction the university is going, the diversity and culture,” says Nícole. “There are so many different associations you can join – you can be a part of the family but still be proud of your culture and who you are.”
Nícole’s interests include traveling, poetry, music and movies—especially comedies.
