Alison Muniz
As assistant director for University Publications, Alison Muniz takes the lead on a variety of projects.
In her role as content manager for the Student Affairs Gateway Web site, Muniz not only writes, edits, proofreads and codes all content, but also constantly keeps her eye out for new story ideas and writes or assigns them to other staff writers as needed.
Recently she worked with the Professional Development Committee to update its Web site. “We worked to make the site more streamlined and make it as helpful as possible for Student Affairs staff,” says Muniz, who edited the copy for the site and suggested updates for the various sections.
“Alison is a real asset to our division,” says Amy R. Johnson, associate dean of students, Orientation, Communication and External Affairs. “We’re fortunate to have her as a member of our leadership team in University Publications. She took our Web site from ‘okay’ to ‘outstanding’ in just a few months.”
Muniz took over the management of the Gateway Web site shortly after its complete redesign three years ago. Since then Muniz has worked to expand the site’s offerings and improve its usefulness for staff and students.
Sue Vogl, director of University Publications notes that Muniz is “quick to research and suggest solutions to problems -- particularly with our many Web projects.”
Muniz’s other responsibilities include coordinating the editing of the Catalogue, editing and selling ads for SCampus, and working on various other projects such as the McNair Scholars Journal, the Pharmacy bulletin and Orientation handbooks. She is also a member of the Division's Professional Development Committee.
Vogl describes Muniz as a “multifaceted editor and problem-solver.” “Combining a background in communication with institutional knowledge, she is able to tackle projects as different as handling curriculum changes in the Catalogue and selling ads in SCampus,” says Vogl. “She brings real leadership to the University Publications team.”
Assistant director since January of 2007, Muniz started working at USC in December of 2003. Previously she worked for a non-profit company in marketing and as a curriculum assistant for an online university. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from California Lutheran University and a master’s degree in communication management from the USC Annenberg School for Communication.
“What I like best about my job is that I get to work with people from all over the university,” she says. “The university setting offers a good working environment.”
