The new president of Panhellenic Council, Ashley Mahaffey, “understands the big picture and is committed to making the greek community shine more brightly than ever before,” says Beth Saul, director of Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Development.

“She is one of the most visionary student leaders I have had the privilege of knowing,” adds Saul.

A junior majoring in business administration with a minor in policy, planning and development, Mahaffey has many goals as president. She hopes to increase communication between Panhellenic, all greek chapters and other campus groups; improve the image of the greek community through philanthropy, scholarship and leadership; and unite the sorority community to assist chapters that need help with informal recruitment.

Mahaffey has hit the ground running. She helped coordinate All Greek Letter Day in February and has assisted in efforts to bring back Greek Week next fall. She was also the driving force behind the first Greek Gala dinner dance and auction held in March at the Galen Center to promote the greek community and its philanthropic projects.

“I am really impressed so far and I love it,” says Mahaffey about being the Panhellenic president. “There is so much you learn from everyone.”

In addition to her USC involvement, Mahaffey enjoys a variety of activities. She rides horses four days a week and has planned and implemented a free, week-long equine summer camp for kids with mental and physical disabilities. She says the camp, which has grown every year since its inception four years ago, is “the highlight of my summer.”

“I love philanthropy projects,” she says. “It’s my passion.”

Mahaffey plans to go to law school and specialize in real estate or contract law after graduating and eventually take over the construction companies her mom owns.” She would also like to study abroad after graduation to “take in different cultures.”
