Brooke Carlson
Brooke Carlson, a USC Writing Program instructor for the past six years, inspires students with a positive and upbeat classroom experience. Honing critical thinking and writing skills, he goes out of his way to support his students.
My class is a workshop built around a general arts and education course, in which we craft claim-driven, analytical essays to contribute to the greater academic discourse, said Brooks. The goal is to cultivate critical skills for thinking and being in the world so that we might be productive and contributing people.
Brooke, a member of the Shakespeare Association of America, earned his masters degree in English from USC in 2002 and is currently working on his dissertation for a doctoral degree in English literature. In addition to teaching and working on his dissertation, Brooke is also helping to develop an exciting virtual experience, interactive Italian language game in the USC Language Center, under the direction of Francesca Italiano, Dan Bayer and Edie Glaser.
From taking ballet to studying in Verona, Italy, and teaching local LAUSD high school students in USCs MedCor program on Saturdays to taking an improvisational acting course, I continue to be challenged and grow as I complete my own degree, Brooke said. Living, learning and teaching here is such a gift.
