David Ginchansky
As a career counselor in the Career Planning & Placement Center, David Ginchansky enjoys organizing career workshops, mock interviews for students and career fairs, and teaching résumé writing skills.
“The greatest satisfaction is when students come back to say they got the job or the internship. I get that almost on a daily basis so it’s nice,” Ginchansky explains. He works primarily with the greek and gay lesbian bisexual transgender (GLBT) communities on campus as well as with students with disabilities.
“The challenge is that every student has a different situation,” Ginchansky says. “But I love meeting one-on-one with students and working with my fellow counselors.”
Ginchansky is co-chair of the Student Recognition Awards, a ceremony held the day before commencement to recognize students with strong academic performance and leadership in extracurricular activities. Part of his task is to market and advertise the awards to different schools on campus to solicit nominations.
"Student Affairs and David are a perfect fit,” says Lynette Merriman, senior associate dean for Student Affairs. “He is a highly dedicated student affairs professional committed to helping students and celebrating their accomplishments. He is thoughtful and hard working and is always friendly and positive. His enthusiasm for our students and his work with them is refreshing. David is truly an asset to the division.”
Prior to becoming a career counselor, Ginchansky worked in several other offices on campus including the Marshall School’s M.B.A. Program for Professionals and Managers as well as Disability Services and Programs. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boston University and a master’s degree in postsecondary administration and student affairs from the USC Rossier School of Education. He recently began the Executive Master of Leadership program at the School of Public Policy, Planning, and Development.
When he isn’t busy working, Ginchansky enjoys spending time with his wife and two-year-old son. He also enjoys movies, reading and sports.
