Deseree Fontenot

Deseree Fontenot, a senior from Pasadena majoring in English and cinema, is this year’s executive director for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Assembly (GLBTA).

Deseree joined the GLBTA her freshman year and has been involved in the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center and the Rainbow Floor. As executive director, she will build on her past GLBTA leadership as communications director and member-at-large for films.

Deseree says she hopes to expand the assembly's strong programming, including events such as Coming Out Week, which has made USC one of the top LGBT schools in the country.

Despite past successes, she says she wants "to bring more educational events to campus and come up with different forms of programming."

Vincent Vigil, director of the LGBT Resource Center, says Deseree is a "great role model and mentor to LGBT students."

After graduating next May, Deseree hopes to attend graduate school in the Bay Area and focus on gender studies. Deseree will also spend her senior year as a resident advisor for Stardust Apartments and has been inducted into the African American Honor Society.
