Emily Beal, a master’s student in education with a focus on learning and instruction, “works as a liaison for students with disabilities.” As a counselor for Disability Services and Programs (DSP), she helps students with disabilities get the assistance they need to succeed in college.

“Emily has great experience working with students with disabilities,” says Edward Roth, director of DSP. “She works great independently and functions well with complicated and sometimes ambiguous situations.”

In addition to her work in DSP, Emily is also a learning assistant for Student Athlete Academic Services, the special events program social chair for the Education Graduate Organization and chair of the Graduate Christian Fellowship. Emily reports that she “does a little bit of everything,” for the Graduate Christian Fellowship -- from planning events to running meetings to marketing.

“It’s the second year the organization has been around, and we’re trying to establish a name for ourselves,” says Emily.

A Los Angeles native, Emily earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies with an emphasis in rhetorical studies from California State University, Northridge.

After she graduates, Emily hopes to continue working with student athletes. “I enjoy working with the athletes,” says Emily. “I like helping them adjust and acclimate to the rigorous college atmosphere.” She is also interested in curriculum design and developing other learning specialist programs at public schools.

Emily is proud to be at USC. “I like the sense of history and the maxims – like faithfulness and courage – we have on campus.”
