Erica Lovano
Erica Lovano, a second-year graduate student in the postsecondary administration in student affairs (PASA) program, demonstrated her personal passion for social justice and service by proposing a Special Interest Living Community called the SCivic Engagement Floor in Troy Hall.
An Azusa, California native, Erica earned her bachelors degree in sociology and minors in gender studies, leadership and non-profit management from the University of San Diego.
Erica has served as assistant residence coordinator in Troy Hall for two years and began her role as the SCitizen program coordinator in the Vice President for Student Affairs office this past year. Erica also works with SCitizen students to develop purposeful service opportunities for students at USC. In addition, she supports the Council of Troy in planning programs for Troy Hall and Troy East to build a community environment for the 740 students who reside there.
The best thing about being part of the Trojan Family is the true community that you find beyond university walls, says Erica. When I was returning home from a recent trip, I happened to be wearing my USC sweatshirt and three people on my flight approached me to share their experience as Trojans. It is always wonderful to recognize how natural that bond is and I value our community a great deal.
Erica will complete her degree this May. After graduation, she hopes to find a full-time position working in student affairs at a university in Southern California.
My passions are in first-year experience programming, civic engagement and leadership development, says Erica. I hope to find a position that allows me to be involved in these areas.
