Mona Cravens
Since her hire in 1976, Mona Cravens, director of Student Publications, has proven to be an invaluable member of the Student Affairs team and the USC community.
As director, Mona advises the students who produce the Daily Trojan newspaper and El Rodeo yearbook and oversees the successful administration of these programs. This year, Mona was recognized with the Student Affairs Cardinal and Gold" award for lifetime achievement as a team member who embodies the Trojan characteristics: scholarly, courageous, ambitious, skillful and faithful. In March, under Mona's direction, the Daily Trojan was named the best student-run daily in the state by the California College Media Association.
?Her contributions to the university community in the 30 years Mona has worked for USC would be impossible to list,? said Amy Johnson, associate dean of students in Orientation, Communication and External Affairs.
Mona earned her bachelor?s degree in choral music from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, and a master?s degree in music history from the University of Louisville. She is a noted expert and leader in her field and has served as vice president for member services of College Media Advisors and vice president of the Western Association of University Publications Managers.
Staff and administrators throughout campus seek Mona's guidance and counsel, for her "institutional history" as well as her thoughtful, calm approach to dealing with challenges.
Mona?s favorite thing about working at USC is the ?daily association with very motivated, engaged and inspirational staff and students, who take great pride in their work and service to the university.?
