Training orientation advisors to become great ambassadors – that’s the goal of Sadaf Nejat, who was recently hired to be an orientation coordinator for Orientation Programs. The Rancho Palos Verdes resident is a senior majoring in English literature with a minor in natural science.

An orientation advisor (OA) in 2006 and a special projects assistant in the summer of 2007, Sadaf has the insight and experience needed to perform her new job.

As an OC, Sadaf will be responsible for recruiting and training orientation advisors, team-building, planning and scheduling. “I’m really excited to be an orientation coordinator,” Sadaf said. “Orientation is about making people feel like they’re going to find a home here at USC.”

Through her role as an OA, Sadaf has made many friends. “I like being able to meet and become friends with so many leaders on campus,” Sadaf said. “The hardest part is trying to find the balance between comrade and leader with a group of my peers – trying to be a leader without being overbearing, and being a friend without being too lenient.”

Those who know Sadaf speak very highly of her.

“Sadaf brings a sense of teamwork and professionalism to the office,” commented Tom Studdert, director of Orientation Programs. “She has worked in the OA role and as a special projects assistant so she knows both the peer advising and the professional staff areas and will be able to bridge the two together to be an excellent OC.”

Sadaf said she really enjoys being part of the Trojan Family because of the camaraderie and spirit she sees around the campus. When she isn’t busy with her OC duties, Sadaf is studying for the LSAT. Sadaf plans to attend law school in California after she graduates in May 2008.
