Sheetal Chib

Sheetal Chib

A marriage and family intern for both Disability Services and Programs (DSP) and the Center for Women and Men (CWM), Sheetal Chib works diligently to support students and help them achieve success.

“My goals are to offer outreach and bring awareness to the services both departments offer,” she says.

At DSP, Chib counsels students, meeting with them to discuss issues hindering their academic success. According to Edward Roth, director of DSP, Chib works with students who have psychological disabilities. “In this capacity, she works very closely with the counselors and full-time staff,” he says.

He describes Chib as “very professional,” and says, “she takes great initiative and has shown a keen ability to work well with a wide variety of students.”

At the CWM, her responsibilities are similar—she acts as counselor, provides advocacy and meets with students who are survivors of gender-based harm.

Chib appreciates the one-on-one contact she has as a counselor. What she finds most rewarding is “seeing students making progress and achieving academic and personal success.”

She is also part of a marriage and family therapy student organization. The group builds cohesion between first- and second-year students, develops community outreach programs, holds events such as a holiday toy drive, collaborates with the CWM and builds connections as colleagues.

Now in her second year in the graduate degree program in marriage and family therapy through the Rossier School of Education, she would like to work for a public or private agency to gain experience when she graduates.

What she likes best about USC is the family atmosphere, the Trojan pride, and the support from staff, faculty and students.
