Sue Vogl
As director of University Publications, Sue Vogl helped Student Affairs take a step forward this year with the development of the division’s new graphic identity program.
Sue, who spearheaded the development, is excited to see this goal of the past three years come to fruition—and so successfully.
“Before, the division was not capitalizing on the strength of our individual programs,” says Sue, who helped with the training for the university’s identity program. “It’s exciting to see the ways the division has adopted the identity program.”
Amy Johnson, associate dean of students, says the program has helped “to strengthen the division’s visual image and project an engaging, high-quality presence across all of our departments. Sue’s energy and leadership were instrumental in making this program a reality.”
In addition, Sue and the University Publications’ team—and Sue emphasizes the team effort aspect—put together publications, including print and electronic versions, for current and/or prospective students. Two of the publications are university documents of authority: the Catalogue and SCampus. In collaboration with campus partners, the team also produces the online Schedule of Classes, commencement program, financial report, Student Affairs Web site, recruitment publications for some of the professional schools and four orientation handbooks. Recently, University Publications launched a complete redesign of the online version of SCampus, which “allows for a lot of student interaction,” says Sue.
“Each year Sue and her entire University Publications team add new features and content to essential student publications—and the results this year for our online SCampus and Schedule of Classes, in particular, are standouts!” says Amy.
Sue has served as director of University Publications for 19 years and is active in Student Affairs. Last spring she co-chaired the Student Recognition Program with Beth Saul. She also has volunteered with the Office of Parent Programs, served as president of Intersorority Parents Council (daughter Shannon graduated in 2005) and mentored two students through the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs.
Prior to USC, Sue worked as director of university publications at California State University, Long Beach. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University.
Sue’s favorite part about working for USC is “the spirit of the campus.” “I like walking around campus and running on my lunch hour. I also have made great friends professionally and socially,” says Sue. “When you work at USC it becomes so much a part of your life—it’s all-encompassing!”
