Vincent Vigil
Director of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center, Vincent Vigil, plays a key role in making USC one of the top LGBT-friendly campuses in the country.
Vincent strives to provide the LBGT community with a diverse and abundant selection of supportive and educational programs and services. Some of these programs include the Faculty and Staff Allies Program, the Film Soiree series and conferences on various topics.
One of the things Vincent likes best about working at USC is the way that the Trojan spirit encompasses the entire university. I went to a small private school for undergrad and we never had as much pride about our school as we do at USC, said Vincent. It is a great place to work when you see so many diverse students share their pride for their school.
It is Vincents hard work and dedication that helped USC earn recognition as one of the Top 20 Best of the Best campuses for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students in a new guidebook, The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students. (See article for more information)
Vincent received his bachelors degree in business administration from Whittier College and his masters degree in postsecondary administration and student affairs from the USC Rossier School of Education. He is currently a doctoral candidate for an Ed.D. degree in higher education administration from USC.
Vincent, who has worked at USC since 2002, is a member of the National Consortium of LGBT Resource Center Directors. When he first came to USC, he began as a graduate advisor for Program Board and the LGBT Resource Center. In 2005, he worked part-time as the LGBT Resource Center director and was promoted to full-time director this year. Vincent is currently coordinating Generation Queer, an emerging leadership retreat, and the Lavender Commencement Celebration, which takes place during the spring semester.
I enjoy working in the Division of Student Affairs because everyone is willing to help each other and even though we have limited resources, we work together to make everything we work on a success, says Vincent.
In addition to his contributions to the LGBT Resource Center, Vincent also serves on several committees for Student Affairs, including the Assessment Committee, the Professional Development Committee, the Academic Committee that coordinates Of the Month discussions and the Student Life Committee.
