"Tobacco, Proposition 29 and the War on Cancer," a symposium organized by Dr. Stephen B. Gruber, director of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, featuring experts from California universities and a panel discussion on tobacco-related cancers.

WHY:   
On June 5, 2012, California voters will vote on Proposition 29, which adds $1 per pack to the cost of cigarettes to fund cancer research. With this initiative as a backdrop, Dr. Stephen B. Gruber is taking the opportunity to educate the public about tobacco-related cancers with this symposium. The event will feature updates on California's role in the "war on cancer" started more than 40 years ago, information on how the tobacco industry focuses marketing efforts on teenagers, and first-person stories from cancer patients who have survived the disease.
