USC Hosts Transit Summit

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will join USC experts and Los Angeles transit officials to discuss the future of transit-oriented development

WHAT: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will be among the featured speakers at a summit to bring together USC researchers and Los Angeles transit officials to discuss transit-oriented and transit-adjacent development as a revitalization tool in Southern California.

The 3rd annual Transit-Oriented Development Summit will explore new data on developments expanding around the Red Line and new Expo Line and Measure R, which provides Los Angeles County with $40 billion in transit and highway funding.

Attendees can also participate in tours of the University Gateway and Expo Line.

WHO: Speakers include:

• Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who will address programs and initiatives that have the support of his office, which may include: transportation progress at the proposed Farmer's Field NFL stadium, the Union Station Master Plan, the LADOT Carshare program, the Bikeshare program supported by Bike Nation, the My Figueroa revitalization and streetscaping plans for Figueroa Boulevard, Modified Parking Ordinance / Parking Districts, MTA TOD Station Area Plan Grants, Cornfield / Arroyo Seco Specific Plan (along the Gold Line), West Adams Community Plan (along the Expo Line), Project RENEW / South LA Community Plan (along the Blue Line), CEQA Bike Lane Exemption, and Measure R Extension (working with Sacramento for Nov 2012 ballot inclusion)

Kristina E. Raspe, USC's vice president of Real Estate Development and Asset Management, who will talk about new development and investment at USC focused on the new Expo Line

• Frank Giblin, director of urban development for the U.S. General Services Administration, who will speak on the critical mass of federal workplaces in relation to transportation and other sustainability indicators

• Brian P. Kelly, acting secretary of the State of California Business, Transportation & Housing Agency, who will speak about state support for the major expansion and strengthening of Southern California's transportation system

• Arthur Leahy, chief executive officer of MTA, who will speak about the opening of the Expo Line and the dramatic growth surrounding transit lines throughout L.A. County

• Breakout sessions led by USC transit and sustainability experts will include Marlon Boarnet, Tridib Banerjee and Vinayak Bharne with the USC Price School of Public Policy; Richard Green of the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate; and David Roberts with USC Local Government Relations
