Leaders of the
global earthquake drill will mark the beginning of the Great ShakeOut
as it starts in Guam and heads west around the world

WHAT: Starting in Guam Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m. Local time (which is 5:18 p.m. PST on Wednesday, Oct. 17) the 2012 Great ShakeOut earthquake drill will officially begin. Over the next 18 hours, more than 13 million people worldwide will "drop, cover and hold on" as it turns 10:18 a.m. in their cities.
At USC, home of the Southern California Earthquake Center-which is, in turn, the home of the Earthquake Country Alliance and the ShakeOut—organizers of the drill will host a kick-off event. A delegation of ShakeOut leaders from Japan, which suffered a 9.0 magnitude earthquake in March 2011, has traveled to USC to witness and participate in the event.
