Marathon Preparation
[2013 Asics LA Marathon]
Glenn T. Ault, M.D., is associate dean at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and medical director for the 2013 Asics LA Marathon. His areas of expertise include clinical administration and inflammatory bowel disease. He can provide preparation tips for participants of the 2013 Asics Marathon, which is scheduled for March 17, specifically advice for running in cold or wet weather. "Runners should consider wearing shirts made of 'technical' fabric that wicks away moisture from the body," said Ault. "If the weather is cold, consider wearing a cap or jacket made of breathable fabric." He can be contacted through the USC Health Sciences Public Relations & Marketing Office at (323) 442-3941 or alison.trinidad@usc.edu.
Organ Development
Gage DeKoeyer Crump, Ph.D., is assistant professor of cell and neurobiology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. His expertise includes neural crest specification and skeletal development and regeneration. He recently co-authored a research study, published in Developmental Cell, on head development at the cellular level. The study, which photographed live zebrafish embryos over a five-year period, may help scientists better understand how organs and birth defects form in humans. "Zebrafish and humans are similar at the genetic level and the organ level," said Crump. "What we're learning in zebrafish ... will be generally applicable and we can pursue these basic principles to come up with new types of technology involving cellular therapy." Contact him at gcrump@usc.edu.
