[Last Word] Black History Basics – Answers – Spring 2008
| It turns out plenty of Last Worders are smarter than a fifth-grader when it comes to showing off their knowledge of black history. Eighty-one entries were received, and 68 were A-plus papers. True to form, many puzzlers did extra credit, such as those who gave the titles of the protest songs written about the murder of NAACP field secretary Medgar Evers: “Only a Pawn in Their Game” by Bob Dylan; “Too Many Martyrs” and “Another Country” by Phil Ochs and “Mississippi Goddam” by Nina Simone. Five Borders gift certificates go out to our randomly selected winners: Beverly Chu, Aili T. Gardea ’85, MBA ’87, Arturo Levin, Regina Rayanne Reece ’99, Diana Stoeltje.
