USC in the News 2/3/2012
The
San Diego Union-Tribune highlighted USC's role in a new California
Department of Public Health study on health risks and climate change.
USC helped to develop the methodology of the study, which found that
poor, urban and minority residents are the most at risk for problems
related to climate change. The story noted that Manuel Pastor of the
USC Dornsife College advised the study. "Given that climate change
presents a suite of risks and not a single risk, this is more of a
planning tool for identifying which communities you should be taking
some time to make sure you address," Pastor said.
"The Daily Show" interviewed David Agus of the Keck School of USC about his new book, "The End of Illness." New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had a 65 percent sentiment rating, while New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning had a 62 percent score. The researchers declared this an upset, considering that Brady should be ahead "given his lofty status as an elite QB."
Business Insider ran an op-ed by Ira Kalb of the USC Marshall School about Facebook's IPO and the risk factors involved. Kalb noted that risk factors are listed on every IPO in order to give the plan credibility. Though some Facebook critics have seized on this, it's a routine part of any IPO filing, Kalb wrote. "Failure to disclose the risks and difficulties of creating a successful company is what scares the smart money people the most," Kalb wrote.
