The New York Times ran an obituary for businessman Forrest Shumway, who joined USC’s board of trustees in 1968 and served as chairman from 1990 to 1995. During his tenure, Shumway headed the selection committee that picked USC President Emeritus Steven B. Sample.

Voice of America interviewed Lawrence Palinkas of the USC School of Social Work about the Newtown, Conn., school shootings. “Targeting young kids has become increasingly common,” Palinkas said. “Generally, when helpless populations are victimized like that, it’s usually to send a message of intense anger.” A second Voice of America story interviewed Palinkas.

NBC News San Francisco affiliate KNTV-TV interviewed John Gaspari, executive director of the USC Center for Work and Family Life, about how children deal with tragedies like the Newtown, Conn., school shootings.
