Review

This site is provided by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service as a means of providing employees of the department access to work related resources on the Internet. The homepage also provides the public with information relating to the Service.

The greatest drawback to this site is the lack of graphics. A few maps, images, and black and white drawings are available, but lack visual impact. The textual information is easily located in other formats and through other Internet resources. This site has the potential to reach many people, but the presentation is humdrum. Providing scanned images of endangered species would go a long way in making this site a more attractive and useful one.

The first section devotes itself to general information about the FWS, employment opportunities with the FWS, navigating the Internet, and press releases and information from the FWS. Agency openings included in the Employment area: Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Mines, Bureau of Reclamation, Fish & Wildlife Service, National Park Servie, Office of the Secretary, Office of Surface Mining, and US Geological Survey.

The next section contains information from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Wildlife laws, conservation programs, environmental contaminants and fisheries information are provided here. The endangered species section provides facts on how a species becomes protected, which species are protected, and the full text of the Endangered Species Act of 1973.
