This site provides access to information and services provided by the U.S. Govt. Printing Office.This includes the Government Documents Pictorial Directory, the publication U.S. Government Subscriptions, video and audio files of the binding processes of the G.P.O., access to GPO Access gateways, as well as the GPO gopher and ftp servers. Some of these databses may require accounts and passwords to open telnet sessions. The video clips are in MPEG format, the audio files are in WAV format. File sizes range from 100K-500+K.

This Web page provides one stop access to many interesting resources. Check out the Superintendent of Documents section and discover a world of information: this is where you can locate the GPO Access program, which provides access to a growing collection of full text government publications, including congressional bills, the Federal Register, the Congressional Record, GAO reports, and the current Economic Report of the President. Although it doesn't jump out at you, the Monthly Catalog from January 1994 to the present is also available here.

A variety of locator services are offered: you can locate depository libraries by state and area code, and you can also use the Government Information Locator Service (GILS), a government-wide program to help the public access federal information systems. They also provide a directory list to some other major government agencies.

Notes

If you have your browser set to automatically load images, be warned: the opening graphic is quite large (along the lines of the White House home page), and loads slowly. If you are not automatically loading images, use the reload option to view the graphic, otherwise you won't be able to choose selections from the graphic (it's an image map). Be sure that your browser can launch telnet sessions, since that is how access is provided to the WAIS server, and federal bulletin board. Some of the material found at this site can also be found on the GPO directory of LC MARVEL, and much of the congressional information is also available via THOMAS.
